FADE IN:

1. INT. THRONE ROOM - MOUNT OLYMPUS

The throne room of Zeus, is neglected and in disarray. Scorched, toppled pillars, crumbling ceilings and marble walls all bear the remnants of the battle between Xena and the gods who tried to destroy Eve those many years ago.

Tendrils of mist weave around the smashed pillars and a thick layer of dust covers everything, from the cracked and dust caked marble floor to what remains of the god-like statues.

Seated on his father's nearly destroyed throne, eating an apple, one leg draped over the marble armrest, is Ares. Curling around him in seductive motions, are the Furies.

He pushes them away, tosses the apple core over his shoulder and stands to survey the damage that is embedded in everything around him.

ARES

This is all that's left... Ruins... No one comes here... No one pays homage... But of course, that's expected...too many memories of a battle gone wrong.

(beat)

Athena should have listened to me. I told her, her plan wouldn't work.

The Furies curl seductively around him, hissing their agreement. He takes several steps away from the throne, leaving the Furies clinging to one another, whispering and looking dejected.

ARES - CONTINUED

And I was a fool!

In the background, the Furies nod their agreement.

ARES - CONTINUED

But no more! It's either this new ONE god or ME! And I don't intend to run off like the others... forgotten or worshipped by only a handful of those ... those... MORTALS!

The Furies, smiling, curl around him again, running their hands over his chest, arms and back.

Ares eyes the Furies with a speculative gleam in his eye.

ARES - CONTINUED

You're going to help me too! After all, you want revenge against Xena for sending you to oblivion.

(beat)

And you owe me for resurrecting you with ambrosia after regaining my godhood.

They nod in agreement, writhing in pleasure at the thought of revenge against Xena and her family.

ARES
(grins broadly)

And when I win... I win more than my survival... I will be the King of the Gods!

2. INT. TEMPLE OF ATHENA -MOUNT OLYMPUS

A light haze can be seen in the room.

Aphrodite sits at the base of a destroyed statue of the goddess Athena. She looks somber as she surveys the destruction and disarray around her.

Standing several feet away is Cupid, hands on his hips. He shakes his head as he looks around the room.

APHRODITE

I never thought I'd hear myself say this... but I have to admit... I miss the others. Even their pettiness and the awful way they treated the mortals...

Cupid looks down at his mother.

CUPID

They're not all gone, Mother. They just won't come back here. Too many memories...

APHRODITE
(sadly looks up at Cupid)

I know... but they shouldn't avoid this place like the plague... We should all band together... show more compassion for the mortals... then they'd find it hard to switch gods the way they are...

Cupid walks toward some toppled pillars at the edge of the room. He gazes through the parting clouds down the mountain.

CUPID

It's not like you didn't try to talk them out of what they wanted to do... They just wouldn't listen to you. Not with Athena and Ares' convincing arguments as to why Eve had to be destroyed.

(beat)

Besides, you have to admit... we are petty... and jealous... and selfish... and we enjoyed meddling in the affairs of the mortals... it was a way to entertain ourselves...

Aphrodite stands and takes a step toward her son. Her foot steps on something that snaps. She glances down to find her pink sandals covered with white soot and under her sandal, is one of Artemis' arrows. She picks it up and a tear rolls down her cheek.

APHRODITE

Hephaestus forged this arrow for Artemis...

Cupid gently wipes away Aphrodite's tear with his thumb and places a tender kiss on the cheek of his mother.

CUPID

I'll leave you to continue your respects for those who've passed. Try not thinking too much about what happened... We've done pretty well in the years since that tragedy...

Aphrodite nods solemnly and smiles up at her son. Cupid exits and heads down the hall.

APHRODITE

If you all hadn't been so stupid... so afraid... you'd all still be here... My Hephaestus would still be here...

She holds the arrow to her bosom in a warm embrace.

3. INT. THRONE ROOM - MOUNT OLYMPUS

Ares is no longer alone with the Furies. He's been joined by the god Apollo.

ARES

Apollo, you need to punish those responsible for Artemis' death.

APOLLO

I warned them not to go through with their plan, Ares. They brought on their own destruction.

ARES
(adamantly)

We could have WON if they had listened to my plan, and not those of Athena's! After all, I am the God of War!

APOLLO
(dismissively)

Why do you think I refrained from involving myself from their actions? Their plans weren't thought out. They acted on impulse... they acted out of fear and stupidity!

ARES
(places a firm hand on the shoulder of Apollo)

Exactly!

(beat)

This is why MY plan to regain control of the mortals will work! They'll forget their so called ONE god and come back to us.

Apollo turns to face the god of war. His brows furrow in thought.

APOLLO

Let's hear this plan of yours.

4. HALLWAY JUST OUTSIDE OF THRONE ROOM - MOUNT OLYMPUS

Hearing voices, Cupid pauses and hides behind a pillar to listen. The voices sound familiar. Carefully he peeks out from behind the pillar to look into the throne room. He sees Ares and Apollo huddled together, the Furies curling around them both, whispering words of agreement.

5. INT. THRONE ROOM - MOUNT OLYMPUS

Curious, Cupid inches silently forward, taking care to conceal his presence.

ARES

So, Apollo, do you see any flaws in my plan?

APOLLO

No, it sounds perfect.

(beat)

Xena, Gabrielle and Eve won't know what happened to them until it's over.

ARES

Yeah, Xena will finally realize she can't keep jerking the God of War around!

APOLLO
(brow arched - eyes Ares with scrutiny)

As long as you have no other motive to get in the way, we should defeat Xena and her companions...

(beat)

And with the defeat and disgrace of the champion of the One God, all mortals will realize that we are the gods who deserve their worship.

ARES

Exactly. Now, here's what I want you to do.

The Furies gather round and follow as Ares and Apollo walk to the far east wing of the throne room, where an opening to the world outside, gives them a view of the flourishing earth below.

Cupid, flush against a pillar, strains to listen.
